Overview

Season overview
Within comical and sarcastic framework, Aum Mutea family come together in their hotel, complaining about the bad financial situation, and the familial problems they have. Abu Salmo and Abu Yazan trying to convince Aum Mutea to receive guests at the hotel.
Aum Nariman shows to be the first guest at the hotel, killing the hotel’s bad vibes, sharing her life stories with the family members until she intimately meets Abu Hazem.
Aum Nariman completes its journey inside the family’s private rooms, stealing things, involve herself in Muteaa and Suhieb relationship. Truthful moments between Maram and Mutea, intimacy between Abu Hazem and Aum Nariman. Aum Nariman seems to be the one in control over others.
Things got complicated between Muteaa and Suhieb while Aum Nariman finds property papers in the hotel and discovers that Abu Hazem lied about having the half of the hotel. Dramatic moments into the family. Aum Mutea is shocked about her brother’s conformation of love and his decision to marry Aum Nariman.
Abu Yazan and Abu Salmo come with Bassam to be the next guest at the hotel but the family feels upset about he being loud and noisy, he brings joy to the scene. Conflicts are happening again between Muteaa and Suhieb, her husband. Mutea tries to tell a story to Bassam to make him sleep and to have a clear night. Samiha, Aum Mutea relative, comes to the place after disagreements with her man Abu Shaker.
Samiha starts sharing disagreements between her and her husband with the family to the level she makes them upset. Aum Mutea conspires with Muteaa, Maram, Muteaa, and Abu Hazem to push on Samiha to leave hotel. Wissal arrives with her kids to be the next guests at the hotel after disagreements with her husband.
Abu Yazan comes with the singer Anas Hilmy to be the next guest at the hotel, the family welcomes him overwhelmingly, then he shares his achievements and successful career with them, he goes too far, bringing his musical band and a show dancer to practice at the hotel. Maram and Aum Mutea feel upset about that all while Mutea is spending a good time because he is a musician.
Anas Hilmy and Abu Hazem meet each other, having good time singing and playing oriental music.
Aum Mutea meets Hilmi at the lobby, asks him to pay his rent, he promises her to pay extra money as an apology, gives her a perfume bottle, and convinces her to make a musical event in the place so she will take all the profits. Hilmi refuses Mutea’s request to join the band, and explains the event plan to others. Hilmi presents his singing role, then the dancer and neurologist Shoroq after him, at the time when truthful moments are happening between Maram and Mutea.
Singing and dancing in all the place, keeping the mood up, Anas presents one of his student (Ramia Hilmi) to the stage to sing, then comes Shoroq to present Mutea to the stage to perform a song. The family wake up the other day, they find no clue for Anan’s existence, so they think that he had run away with all the money, but he comes back and gives Aum Mutea the money. Two men with cold faces entering the hotel, asking for the event’s permission paper, they take the money that’s Anas left.
Abu Yazan and Abu Salmo come with Maisaa who is aspire to work as a house keeper, to be the next guest at the hotel. Maisaa has accepted for a three days probation period, so she asks Aum Mutea to evaluate her work, then starts cleaning the place. Aum Subhi shows to visit Aum mutea, Abu Hazem comes, then helps Maisaa with her curriculum vitae. Maisaa tells her family’s tragic story to Maram and her mother, therefore, they cry, and that’s after falling out of control while she was cleaning the place.
Maisaa shows after a week to tell the family that she had the job.
Abu Salmo and Abu Yazan come with spineless Issam and cunning Faiz to be the next guests at the hotel, they sat in the room, revealing a big bag of money and jewelry, Issam is depressed, Faiz convinces him to take the bag and put it somewhere safe. During his first night, Isaam is hallucinating of voices and scenarios that pointing to him as a thief and a betrayer. Faiz comes the other day, taking advantage of Issam mental state, bringing a potato sandwich for Issam to eat.
Faiz still manipulating Issam, he tells him that he has brought potatoes, so no one can see that he has a fortune. In the ground floor, Aum Mutea confesses her doubts about Issam to Abu Hazem, he goes to meet him surprisingly, trying to know more about him for his sister’s doubts. Isaam gets sick, Faiz convinces him not to take what all doctors say seriously, Abu Hazem asks Isaam to tell him about his life, Isaam narrates his tragic life story, crying, but has an apoplexy before mentioning where the fortune is. Faiz is dropping fake tears over Issam death, the police come to take him for having a lot of money in his house.
Abu Yazan comes with the high school student, talkative Najah, to be the next guest at the hotel.
Najah is trying to pass the exams for she has passion to study pharmacy, but she has been trying to pass for seven years, so the family decide to help her this year. Najah invites an old woman to take amulets and useless things from her to use them during exams.
Abu Salmo comes with Mahran who is a production company manager, to be the next guest at the hotel, he wants a location for shooting a series, so he tells Aum Mutia that he wants to check the place to see if it matches with required location. He promised Aum Mutea a respectful pay for rent, but he goes back and forth, changing the shooting plan for the room, and asks Aum Mutea crazy things to do.
Abu Yazan and Abu Salmo come with the next guest at the hotel, chief Ramziah, who has made the biggest Falafel sandwich in the world, she tells them about her participation in the upcoming cooking competition, The Golden Spoon, then goes to see the kitchen. The family collaborate with her, cooking launch, the meal got burned but they ate it singing and laughing.
Abu Yazan comes with Rihab to be the next guest at the hotel, she meets Maram, and Abu Hazem, and tells him the reason for she and her husband, the shoemaker, are renting the room. Her Husband, Hisham, comes after work with a framed picture of Shakespeare’s shoe. The next day, morning, Rihab is complaining to Aum Mutea about her husband’s life style and for he being cold with her, therefore, Aum Muteaa prepares a meal for everyone while Muteaa and Suhieb is playing romantic to insinuate Hisham to do the same.
In pretty clothes and make up, Rihab is wating Hisham to have dinner with Aum Mutea family, he comes late because he was in the police department for he had a fight with one of the customers because of a shoe. Rihab is crying because of her husband behavior, Aum Mutea asked Abu Hazem help to come and talk with Hisham, then Hisham goes to take care of sick Rihab overwhelmingly. The other day, all the family are complaining for not finding their shoes. Hisham has a career shift, to start working in cows farming field.
Abu Salmo and Abu Yazan come with Abu Rami and his son to be the next guests at the hotel, his son has a panic attack, so his father immediately takes him to bed, and sets with others to tell them Rami’s illegal travels to Europe, and the tragic history that left him with a sea phobia. Mutea goes to traumatized Rami’s room to heal him by playing some music.
Aum Mutea decided to stop receiving guests, then a poet called Nawras who seems to has a common past with the family, comes to rent the room for two days, he calls Aum Mutea asking her why she has refused to marry him before. Nawras keeps calling Aum Mutea from his room, telling her love verses, promising her to propose the next day. He surprises everyone the other day, he opens a bag of money and asks Abu Hazem to give him Maram as a wife.
Mutea comes with the percussionist Satoor Altaher. Mutea tells Abu Hazzem that Satoor knows the artist Nazim Almaher, and he wants to help him in his musical career. Abu Hazem keeps confronting him for being noisy, but Mutea begging him to wait until they finish the melody they are working on. Mutea brings two of Satoor friends, they are having a good time singing and smoking weed, until Abu Hazem calls the police, they come and arrest them all.
Mutea and Abu Hazem in the ground floor talking about the last night, they got a phone message says “Proactive vaccines for social ills will be introduced soon”. Mutea decides to travel to Lebanon following his mother and sister, Abu Hazem stays alone in the hotel. Abu Mohannad comes to visit Abu Hazem after he had the vaccine, Muteaa and Suhieb come after a while, they are all talking about the new vaccine.
Next day, Abu Hazem is playing Aud alone in the lobby, Abu Yazan sends Farah to rent a room in. Maram comes back to find Farah, the conflicts start between them because of a previous online confrontation on social media, Maram is asking from Abu Hazem to kick her out while Farah is asking him the money back. Maram blackmails Farah in front of everyone after she has collected bad info from Farah’s past.
Abu Salmo comes with Nasser to be the next guest at the hotel. Nasser introduces himself as a cinema star to the family, and he promised to find a role for Mutea in the ongoing series he is working upon.
Actor Nasser comes to his room everyday with broken bones and bloody mouth. He is training Mutea on a historical scene, asking to be beaten. Everyone knows he is not an actor, but a poor extra.
Abu Yazan comes with Mr. Aowni, a well-known senior official , to be the new guest at the hotel, so Aum Mutea calls Abu Hazem to come as fast as he can. Aowni asks his assistant to burn something and make him ensures to burn that thing, then Abu Hazem invites him to drink coffee, and he tells his story to Abu Hazem, that he is a recently terminated senior official. Aowni’s wife comes to his place complaining about her car and the privileges he lost after he has terminated.
All the family are having breakfast with Mr. Aowni, he thanks them and promises them to help them with their needs, so everybody tells him their obstacles and problems. Aowni has a phone call with his daughter Salam for her fiancé left her after her father has terminated. Aowni returns to his position and leaves the room after he has frustrated everyone for the requests they asked for.
Abu Yazan comes with journalist and feminist (Alia) to be the new guest at the hotel, she asks Aum Mutea to introduce herself by her name, so all the women in the family becomes interested, for she is a feminist. Alia changes the women minds in the hotel and causes a revolution against men, the men now are doing the feminine rules and house keeping tasks in the place. Alia’s husband comes yelling for her to come, her body is shaking out of fear, but she collects herself together and emotionally blames him for being tough. Men and women are living in harmony together.
Night, Abu Salmo tells Mutea to call for her mom, he tells her to let him bring Haitham to take a room in the hotel because of a conflict with her wife. Haitham appears to has many relationships with many girls and lies about his feelings to them. Muteaa comes crying as usual but this time for Suhieb’s willing to marry again, Haitham hears her and runs to be a shoulder. After that, he asks Abu Hazem’s advice to resolve for he married three women secretly. Suhieb comes by the hotel, Muteaa is confronting him. Suhieb tells Haitham that he was faking the smart card info and by “second” he meant the second bundle of bread.
Mutea’s girlfriend tells she prepared a surprise for him, while Haitham is sitting with others in the lobby, telling them about his marriages. Haitham keeps lying, he tells each one of his wives that he will divorce the other two. Each wife comes to Haitham, they give him money to support himself.
Abu Yazan comes with smelly Adel, telling Aum Mutea he is going to win Guinness Book Of Records, so everybody could not breath of his smell. Abu Hazem follows the source of the smell, it leads him to Adel’s room, and goes in a coma. He tells them his story that he is going to be in Guinness records for strong will for he has not been showered for five years. They all are trying whatever way to get rid of his smell.
Shashah Review
A Syrian comedy sitcom directed by Rashad Kokash and casting Salma Almasri, Ayman Rida, and Wael Ramadan.
The story of this drama series revolves around a lady who owns a hotel in old Damascus that was polarizing rich and foreign people, but the heavy circumstances in Syria after the war, the unstable security and economic situations, and the Corona pandemic conditions are pushing her to receive customers again.
The core idea of this social-comedy drama series is okay, it will be fun and entertaining to watch a sitcom that is episodic while each episode contains a different comedy star, but when you start watching it, you will be disappointed and all your imagined funny scenarios and entertainments will vanish, and that is a big directional gap you would prefer not to exist. There are some funny or crazy scenarios you will be glad about, some episodes are good, many are not, some characters and guests of honor will entertain you, while others will make you feel the opposite. Unfortunately, all the other elements such as, actors’ performance, dialogues, monologues, script, and scenarios are modest. There are few exceptions of course, but if it is all about social comedy, which is a good idea, then the way it presented is not that proper way.
Entertaining to view with family members, frustrating not to be better, recommended if you want to follow up with ongoing Syrian works.
